Our music students will be performing for their family and friends at this festive event. Come see our budding young musicians in action!
The SLES Science Fair is a non-competitive, fun opportunity for kids in every grade to try out new projects and share them with other kids and adults. Projects can be done individually or in groups and parent involvement is encouraged! For any questions and to sign up, please email Wendy Schiff at email@example.com no later than February 17. Please include the name(s) and grade (s) of the students participating and the project topic.
PTA Enrichment Night
6:45pm - 7:30pm
Meet our partners, FLEX Academies, and talk with our Enrichment Co-Chairs about the numerous PTA sponsored activities and classes offered to the students of Seven Locks --- from yoga to languages, science, chess, dance, art, and more. Please come and learn more about all the hard work by the PTA to offer your children fantastic before and after-school opportunities! This is also a great time to give your PTA feedback on what we can do to exceed the needs of the kids and expand on what we already offer.
Food Collection for Manna Food Bank
February 15-March 1
Bring non-perishable food items to the school to help eliminate hunger in Montgomery County. Bins will be set up in the school hallways for collection.

The Variety Show is scheduled for March 15th (and dress rehearsal on March 14th). Previews for acts will be February 14 and 15. We are excited for another awesome show. Don't Forget to Collect Box Tops!
The next collection date for Box Tops is February 26. Please note that Box Tops do NOT need to be cut perfectly, just send them in and we'll make sure they are submission-ready! Please write your child's and their teacher's name on a Ziploc bag, stuff it full of Box Tops and submit to the front office or their teacher. The child who brings in the most Box Tops will win a popsicle party for their entire class!
Variety Show volunteers are needed: The Variety Show is scheduled for March 15th, the dress rehearsal is March 14th and previews for the acts will be in mid-February. If parents or older siblings are interested in helping with the show please contact Karen Levin at email@example.com
Still Need Lunch and Recess Volunteers
If you are able to sign up for a lunch/recess block consistently or periodically, the school would appreciate it. They plan to use these additional volunteers to help with different zones on the playground to provide additional support to students on the basketball court, soccer field and/or kickball field. February Community Service Project: Manna Food
Seven Locks ES will be collecting food products from February 15-March 1 for a local nonprofit food bank called Manna Food. Manna's singular focus to to "eliminate hunger in Montgomery County." Please consider donating non-perishable food to the bins that will be set up in the school hallways. More details and a wish list of donation items here.

This race was created in memory of 6-year-old Seven Locks student Michael Mosier, who battled a brain tumor called DIPG during his kindergarten year before passing away in May 2015. Michael’s little sister, Lila, is now in 1st grade at Seven Locks. All proceeds go to childhood brain cancer research through Michael Mosier Defeat DIPG Foundation, the nonprofit founded in his name.

Mind Yeti for Seven Locks Students
Has your child come home talking about MindYeti? MindYeti is an online resource program that brings mindfulness to kids. Through funding provided by the Seven Locks Elementary School Educational Foundation's grant program, Mrs. Steinberg has re-newed a subscription to MindYeti for SLES! While some of our teachers use MindYeti in the classroom, any SLES family can have access to the MindYeti program. If you are interested in using this fantastic program at home, please feel free to email Mrs. Steinberg (email@example.com) for information on how to access this program.
Looking for Future Kindergartners!
We are starting the planning process for Kindergarten Orientation. Students may attend kindergarten in the fall if they are 5-years-old by September 1, 2019. If you have a child who will be coming to kindergarten at Seven Locks this fall, please contact Linda Kurinsky at Linda_N_Kurinsky@mcpsmd.org. Please share this information with friends and neighbors. Our Kindergarten Orientation will take place later this spring.
