PTA EVENTSMOVIE NIGHT: Save the date !!Movie Night is one week away! Please join us next Friday, February 10 for Mr. Popper's Penguins. Doors open at 6:30, movie starts promptly at 7 (running time 1 hour and 35 minutes). For $5, watch the movie, enjoy popcorn, candy and a drink. Hope to see you there!Variety ShowThe Seven Locks Variety Show is coming soon! Please encourage your child to participate. Remember, it's "variety" not necessarily "talent". Students love to participate and being in the show is a big deal for them. Get the kids together from your bus stop to do a silly act, or take that song they were singing with a friend on a playdate to the big stage. Previews take place on Thursday 2/16 and Friday 2/17 right after school. Please contact Teri Stanish at teristanish@yahoo.com with the name(s) of student(s) in the act, the details of the act, and the day which you would like to attend the preview.SCIENCE FAIRIt's time to start thinking about projects for the annual Science Fair! The Science Fair will be held on Thursday, February 23rd from 6 - 8 pm in the SLES All Purpose room. The SLES Science Fair is a fun, non-competitive event. Students in ALL grades are encouraged to participate. This is an opportunity for kids to try out new projects and share them with others. Projects can be done individually or in pairs or groups and parent involvement is encouraged. To sign up, please email Wendy Schiff at wendybschiff@aol.com and include the name(s) of the student(s) participating. You do not need to know the project topic at this time in order to sign up. Please mark your calendar for Friday, January 27th at 6:00 p.m. at Churchill High School's cafeteria. It promises to be a fun night for the whole family! Potomac Pizza will be providing delicious food to purchase and the 5th graders will be selling baked goods and drinks. Bingo cards will be sold at the door: $20 for a family of four to play ($5/card), and 10 games will be played. You can also purchase individual cards for $6 (ten games to play). We have awesome prizes for first, second and third place winners! We look forward to seeing you there. If anyone has middle school aged children who would like to earn community service hours, please contact Wendy Cohen at WCohen@kdclargo.com or Judy Slotnik at judyumass@aol.com. We could use their help setting up and manning the prize tables, helping at the check-in table (where folks will purchase Bingo cards) and verifying Bingo winners. Wednesday, January 11, 2012 from 6-8 pm for the SEVEN LOCKS PTA FAMILY SNEAK PEEK AND CONCERT For those parents who are curious about the new school, the PTA will host a family sneak peek and concert on January 11. Students and parents will enjoy self-guided tours of the facility beginning at 6:00 pm. Dinner will be available for purchase from 6:00 until 6:45. (caterer TBD). After eating and wandering the school, the PTA will proudly introduce the a cappella band Ball in the House (back by popular demand) for a 45 minute rocking concert beginning at 7:00 pm. The evening will be an unstructured open house so if you can't be there during the entire event, we encourage you to stop by at the time that works best for your schedule. Please ask your kids about Ball in the House, http://www.ballinthehouse.com. They loved them last year when they played as part of the PTA Cultural Arts program. The band from Boston will be on its way to North Carolina and will be making a special stop in Bethesda to celebrate our new school. Stop on by and support the SLES PTA!THE REFLECTIONS ART/LITERATURE SHOW COMING UP ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 9TH!Calling all students at Seven Locks! The annual Reflections Art Show will be held at the school on Wednesday, November 9th at 6:30 pm. The National PTA Reflections Program is one of the largest student arts recognition programs in the country. Finalists in our show will be submitted to the county level for judging. We encourage EVERYONE from Kindergarten through 5th grade to enter! This year's theme is "Diversity means.....". Submissions may be created in or outside of school as long as they are new pieces inspired by this theme. The 6 categories are: 1) Visual Art -- can be an original print, drawing, painting, collage, photographic collage, computer-generated artwork 24" x 30" or less. 2) Photography -- do you enjoy taking pictures? Submit an original black-and-white or color image 11" x 14" or less. 3) Dance Choreography -- an original choreographed dance recorded on a DVD. The choreographer may be the performer or one of the performers. 4) Film Production -- an original work of fiction or nonfiction with the student as director, screenwriter, and camera person submitted on DVD. Use your creativity! 5) Literature -- entry may be a work of fiction or nonfiction. Prose, poetry, and drama are all accepted -- 2,000 words or less. 6) Music Composition -- are you a musician? The entry may be for voice, instruments, or a combination of both, on a CD, 5 minutes or less.
