AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

KOA After School Sports Program

KOA Sports has teamed up with the Seven Locks PTA to offer boys and girls in K-2 & 3-5 an awesome after-school opportunity on Tuesdays. KOA's 6 week co-ed multi-sports program includes flag football, kickball, lacrosse, T-ball/baseball, field games and more! They provide all the equipment, great coaches and tons of fun! Sign-up is easy...just go to www.koasports.org and click on Register for Program. Cost: $120/student (5% of the entire revenue goes right back to the PTA!) Questions? Mad Science

Mad Science is back by popular demand! This session's theme is Crazy Chemworks, in which children will engage in exciting hands-on activities, watch spectacular demonstrations, participate in inquiry-based discussions and take home things that they have made themselves like Mad Science slime!

Chess Club

2nd to 5th Grade (1st graders with experience are welcome)

Fee: $110 for one session or $300 for all three sessions (fall, winter and spring)

Schedule: Mondays from 3:30PM to 4:30PM for 10 weeks

Fall session: Sept. 13, 20, 27; Oct. 4, 11, 18, 25; Nov. 8, 15, 22, (10 classes)

Winter session: Nov. 29, Dec. 6, 13, 20; Jan. 3, 10, 31; Feb. 7, 14, 28 (10 classes)

Spring session: Mar. 7, 14, 21, 28; Apr. 4, 11; May 2, 9, 16, 23 (10 classes)

Place: Seven Locks Elementary School, Media Center

Instructor:

Victor Sherman is a Chess Master with over 30 years experience teaching chess. Some of Victor's current and former students include several well-known Grandmasters. Recently, two of his students, Shinsaku Uesugi (10 grade) and Brian Li (5 grade), won National Grade Championships. Victor has taught similar beginner sessions at many Montgomery County schools including here at Seven Locks.

Format:

Class is open to students of all levels - beginners learn how to play chess, while more experienced students work on improving their strategy. A portion of each class is devoted to instruction and a portion to play (students are matched with those of similar ability). Students participate in a chess tournament during the second part of this session.

Registration:

To register your child for this class, please complete the attached form and drop off the form along with a check in the "Chess Club" box in the Main Office. Forms must be received by Thursday, September 9, 2010.

Drama Classes

Fall Drama Classes at Seven Locks ES will begin the week of September 20th.

Drama Creations

Grades 3-5

Thursdays: 3:30-5:00 p.m. (10 weeks) Sept.23, 30, Oct.7, 14, 21, 28, Nov.4, 11, 18, (skipping Nov.25) & Dec. 2. (Final sharing on last day)

Tuition: $258

This class will teach children theater concepts. Using fun games, improvisation techniques, music, movement and voice, students will develop characters, stories and plays. The class will conclude with a performance for parents and family members. No experience required. Former students welcomed. (Register early - 14 maximum!)

Drama Fun

Grades 1-2

Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30 p.m. (10 weeks) Sept.22, 29, Oct.5,12, 19, 26, Nov. 3, 10, 17 (skipping Nov. 24) & Dec. 1. (Final sharing on last day)

Tuition: $173

Using fun theater games, music and movement, children will develop characters, learn lines and perform skits and plays. The class will conclude with a performance for parents and family members. Former students welcomed. (Register early - 12 maximum!)
