Seven Locks PTA

VOLUNTEER

There are many opportunities to volunteer at our school throughout the year.  Teachers, students and parents appreciate these volunteer efforts and they are an integral part of the school experience.  For more information about volunteering, contact our Volunteer Coordinator Sharon Bland.  If you have an interest in volunteering for a specific event, please contact the lead on that event as noted in the Contacts section. Thank you for your time!

Current Volunteer Opportunities

Lunch and Recess Helper - There is new recess equipment! Jump ropes, hula hoops, sidewalk chalk, colored paper, crayons, stencils, strings and beading (make bracelets, etc) and a few balls! Ms. Gordon is hoping to have designated areas for each activity (hula hooping, art- sidewalk chalk, jump roping) but in the same general location, that way one of the staff members or lunch/recess volunteers can keep an eye out on that area and make sure the equipment is used properly and not lost. So, we are hoping to have one recess volunteer (or staff member) monitoring this area everyday.

Please sign up for the Lunch and Recess Corps! If you are a new parent to the Seven Locks School, this volunteer activity really helps by keeping an eye on our children and assisting when necessary in the lunchroom and also on the outdoor fields, black-top activities (basketball and four-square) and the jungle-gym.

This year, grades K and 4 have lunch from 11:15-11:45 and recess from 11:45-12:15. Grades 1 and 2 have recess from 11:15-11:45 and lunch from 11:45-12:15. Grades 3 and 5 have lunch from 12:15-12:45 and recess from 12:45-1:15. On early release days, there is no recess, and all grades eat lunch during the time period from 11:15-12:45.

The February sign-up is now available for Seven Locks Elementary Lunch and Recess Corps! Please volunteer to help with lunch or recess, just go to www.SignUpGenius.com/go/20F084DACA8229-february. If you have any questions, please contact Joy Evans at joyevans1@verizon.net. Thanks so much for your help!

PTA Bulletin Board Volunteer - The Seven Locks PTA is in search of a semi-creative individual to be responsible for the PTA Bulletin Board, located across from the school's Main Office and next to the Copy Room.

The Bulletin Board is used to keep students and parents informed, to promote upcoming PTA events and activities and to highlight other important PTA information. In addition to an opportunity to show off your creativity, this is an easy and fun job and can be done on your own schedule. For more information, please contact Judy Slotnik at Judyumass@aol.com.

Room Parents - Attention all parents who would LOVE to be a room parent... Now that we know which class our child is in...how would you like to be their room parent? It is a really fun way to stay connected with your child's class and have a super fun time doing so. Basically it involves keeping in touch with his/her teacher and organizing parties for Halloween, Valentines Day and End of the year. It also involves collecting money for a teacher gift around holiday time and end of the year.

It really is fun and the parties are organized by the room parents, but run with the help of other parents in the class. Let me know if you are interested. I will have a breakfast at my home to explain everything about being a room parent once they all are chosen. Thanks! Please contact Lee Stern at chinsky911@gmail.com.

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering supports the school and is a fun way to meet other parents. Most tasks are flexible and there are many ways you can help, even with time constraints. Here are just a few opportunities:

Classroom Helper –Teachers often need help in the classroom, help preparing for a lesson by making copies, or assistance with special classes, e.g., help your child’s class when they go to art class. Contact your child’s teacher and see what help is needed.

Room Parents – each class has two room parents, and they are responsible for working with the teacher to organize three parties (Halloween, Valentine’s Day and an end of the year party), collect donations for the parties, seek volunteers for classroom needs, collect updated parent information, and keep the parents updated on class events. To become a room parent, contact the Room Parent Coordinator Lee Stern.

PTA project and event support  – Each PTA event needs parents for staffing tables, creating bulletin boards, etc. Look for requests for help in the wildcats e-mails or contact the PTA member responsible for the event to see how you can help.

PTA Officers – There are many different ways to serve the various PTA functions. Please contact the PTA officers of the functions that interest you.

Each Fall, Principal Mrs. Gordon conducts volunteer training sessions. If you have not attended one of these, please contact Mrs. Gordon.
